INSPIRATION (updated randomly)

I worked a couple of hours doing security at a performance by "The Bedroom Philosopher" before going to my usual security job, the venue owner asked me to take some photos before i left. I only had ten minutes and I was quite out of my element, but i managed to get some acceptable photos. I was also limited by the fact that the only lens i currently own is a 50mm 1.8, my wide angle zoom has had its day.

I am purchasing a canon eos 1d mark III today and was wondering if anyone that has used or uses one has any tips/things to make sure of for me? (camera operation that is.)
